Declining Washington Post Desperately Attacks More Popular News Site

There’s something interesting about the Washington Post’s false smear of 200 news sites as being “Russian propaganda”.

Specifically, the Post actually attacked a more popular news source …

In July of this year, the Washington Post had 369,476,000 combined pageviews … and the number of visits from Facebook was down 26% from the first quarter in 2016:

postThe number on the left is the important one:  Combined Page-Views.  The middle number is Desktop Facebook Visits,  and the right number is Change in Facebook Visits Q1 Versus Q2.

Drudge, on the other hand, had combined pageviews of 1,472,220,000 … and its Facebook visits were up 50% from Q1:

To be fair, the Washington Post also has a print edition. Its circulation is around 474,767  daily, with a Sunday edition circulation of 838,014.

So let’s add it up …

WaPo had total impressions in July 2016 of:

  • 369,476,000 (web impressions)
  • Plus [6 (daily editions per week) times 4 (weeks in a month) times 474,767 (daily edition newspaper circulation)]
  • Plus [4 (Sunday editions per month) times 838,014 (Sunday newspaper circulation)]

Equals 384,222,464 total impressions.

Bottom line: Drudge had over a billion more impressions than the Post in July (1,472,220,000 minus 384,222,464 = 1,087,997,536).

In other words, WaPo only had 26.1% of the impressions Drudge did in July. Put another way, Drudge had almost four times as many impressions as the Post.

Postscript:  Is this the classic behavior of a sore loser?

For example, when political candidates start sinking in the polls, they often desperately attack the leader to try to generate enough controversy to try to regain relevance and kick-start interest in their campaigns.

Note: Some of the other sites on the red-baiting blacklist cited by the Post also have impressive numbers, although below those of the Post. But added together, the impressions of the site on the list leave the Post even further behind.

NYT and WaPo are not The Fourth Estate, rather The Fifth Column H.Q.

“We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries.” -David Rockefeller, Bilderberg 1991 (Baden-Baden Germany)

WAPO and the rest of the corporate media (MSM) committed suicide by being overtly biased during the electoral run. They are dead, finished and this effort of theirs is nothing but the dead cat’s bounce trying to make it appear as if they are still relevant.

all of the US govts MSM PROPAGANDA outlets “but in this instance the washington post” is/are attacking news outlets that don’t and won’t regurgitate the US governments propaganda.. that’s funny!

    • Charlie Primero

Protip: The U.S. Government doesn’t own and operate the MSM.

      Research who does.

      • desertspeaks

sarcastic tip; wow really? who knew.. you should write a book about me not knowing this bizarre fact! I should really read more facts.. what do you recommend??

      • RJ O’Guillory

….no…the corrupt US Government only acts as the Human Resource Manager, or Talent Recruiter for the corrupted networks, their online sites and all published BS.

No, the same oligarchy that owns MSM owns the US Government. See my essay The Distribution of Wealth In America, posted elsewhere on this site, for research and documentation.

  • Bill Kristollnacht

I’m from DC and the WAPO print edition is now as thin as Time Magazine.

    They’re toast.

    • RJ O’Guillory

…when they get as thin as Newsweek…let me know!

IMO the New York Times is the 10 ton gorilla in the “Fake News” space; let’s not forget all those “Weapons of mass destruction” Judy Miller said Saddam was hiding in Iraq.

    • diogenes

Certainly when it comes to fake news the New York Times is the world champ. It’s record goes back to the Civil War, and so do its murderous lies.

  • Robert McMaster

This is the way to beat these guy. Toronto Star, CBC, Globe and Mail, (up here in Canada) – we don’t need you. We can get our news otherwise and will not patronize your opinion however you might try to enforce it on us. Shove off! The party line you tout is bilge. Please go out of business as soon as possible.

    • diogenes

Unfortunately, that’s not how they play the game. Like any corporation, corporate media will use the power of consolidated finance and corporate monopoly, enabled by corrupt government, to kill competition. Or in this case, gag what it can’t coopt. In 1908 there were over a dozen “muckraker” magazines publishing political and economic facts in form intelligible to average readers in America. By 1916 they had almost all been either bought out or crowded into insolvency by advertising syndicate boycotts. And then once Wilson got his war declared, four months after winning an election because ‘he kept us out of war,’ he established his police state and used it to suppress all dissent. Hundreds of newspapers and magazines folded and 20,000 Americans were imprisoned for telling the truth.

      • Robert McMaster

Major newspapers, magazines and TV networks have folded or on shaky ground. I used to be a newspaper junkie. Don’t buy any now. Choke ’em off! The Canadian government does not have the power. They might try but the fury at that will bring them down. People see Brexit, Italy, Trump, Corbyn. They are not going to get this genie back in the bottle.

I uncovered this part of USA history a few years ago.
When the “fake news story” and the accusations against independent news sources came out I laughed out loud.

I never get tired of the religious extremist that points out the sins of the heathens only to be discovered with the dead sex worker in his bed.
    Oh America…don’t ever change,
