Is The Syria Ceasefire Actually A Good Thing?

As the US-Russian-backed “ceasefire” plan begins to take effect in Syria today, much of the world is holding its breath in hopes that all guns fall silent and that a “political solution” is found. Despite the fact that virtually everyone expects the ceasefire to fall apart within a short amount of time, the Western media is hailing the agreement as a diplomatic victory for the United States while many alternative media outlets are representing the agreement as a victory for the Russians.

The ceasefire deal, brokered between Russia and the United States, is made up of a number different facets. First, Russia is required to pressure the Syrian government to stop its military combat activities against what is considered “moderate” US-backed rebels. On the other side, if the ceasefire holds for at least seven days, the United States is supposed to join Russia in military operations against Jobhat al-Nusra (Jobhat Fatah al-Sham). The U.S. will also have to be more clear which “rebels” are “moderate” cannibals and which ones are “extremist” cannibals and, as John Kerry admitted, it will require “some sharing of information” with the Russians.

“This requires halting all attacks, including aerial bombardments, and any attempts to gain additional territory at the expense of the parties to the cessation. It requires unimpeded and sustained humanitarian access to all of the besieged and hard-to-reach areas, including Aleppo,” said US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Kerry also stated that the agreement would prevent the Syrian military from flying combat operations against “moderate” rebels and anywhere the “opposition” publicly deemed legitimate by the United States is present. He called this provision the “bedrock of the agreement” and stated that “That should put an end to the barrel bombs, an end to the indiscriminate bombing of civilian neighborhoods.”

The ceasefire plan is supposed to take effect on a nationwide basis.

But is the ceasefire plan really something that will benefit the Syrian people? Certainly, the quieting of rifles and artillery are good for many civilians in the short term but it may also be incredibly destructive for all civilians in the long run. Short term peace may quiet the battlefield for now but, in the end, if this ceasefire is the gateway to a “political transition” that sees Western-backed foreign terrorists assume “power-sharing” positions in the government, ushering in tyrannical Sharia law and pro-Western “free-market” globalism then Syria, in the long term, will be the worse for it.

It should also be noted that, as John Kerry stated, this new agreement is going to create a de facto No Fly Zone over the entire country. While the agreement admittedly contains no enforcement mechanism for breaking the terms, it will undoubtedly provide the West a pretense for military action or further involvement if airstrikes are carried out by the Syrian government. Even if the SAA launches airstrikes in response to a breaking of the ceasefire by ISIS or other US-backed terrorists, the Western media will no doubt leap to paint the narrative that the Syrian government is the violating party and thus some type of justification for further American action.

Nevertheless, these “ceasefire” agreements have the most convenient timing it is scarcely believable that there is even the slightest amount of legitimacy to them. Indeed, every time the Syrian military is poised to make important gains and monumental victories over the terrorists, the United States, France, UK, or the UN rush in with pleas for “ceasefires” and peace plans.

Now, with the Syrian military having fully encircled Aleppo again, with the manpower and armaments of the terrorists lower than ever, as well as strategic victories by the SAA all over the country, it is time for the US to rush in to save their terrorist pets.

Few can deny that the proposed “truces” are very “convenient” in their timing from the point of view of NATO strategists. As Tony Cartalucci of Land Destroyer writes,

It is curious because talks of “truces” were completely absent just as recently as 2011, when both organizations, the UN and NATO, backed hordes of terrorists sweeping across Libya, committing abhorrent atrocities including the systematic, genocidal extermination of Libya’s black communities.

Indeed, NATO and UN peace treaties only seem to appear when the NATO terrorist proxies encounter serious trouble on the battlefield.

While peace is no doubt to be desired in Syria, Western powers should not be allowed to use the concept as a weapon against the Syrian government or the Syrian people.

The United States, UK, France, NATO, and the UN do not want peace. They want a reprieve for their proxy forces. Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, and Russia should all know this very well and should thus not be tempted to enter into agreements and deals with a country and an alliance that has demonstrated time and time again that they are neither willing or capable of maintaining their end of the bargain.

If the terrorist “rebels” encircled in Aleppo and embattled throughout the rest of the country want peace, they should have the option of unconditional surrender. Amnesty, upon surrender, could also be discussed at the pleasure of the Syrian government.

Otherwise, the encirclement should continue and the liberation of Aleppo must necessarily follow.

Assad must not “go.” NATO and its terrorist proxies must go.

Fake peace agreements and politically based “truces” are no longer acceptable and they are no longer credible in the eyes of any informed observer.

Only true and total peace, stability, and reconstruction are acceptable options for Syria.
