Pulitzer-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald published an article this week documenting how the West, including France, has both empowered and antagonized ISIS prior to the recent attacks in Paris (more documentation here and here. Reuters: “Islamic State warned in a new video on Monday that countries taking part in air strikes against Syria would suffer the same fate as France, and threatened to attack in Washington.”).
For one of his sources, Greenwald links to a report on declassified DIA documents by Brad Hoff, a journalist and former marine with five years of experience and study in Syria. Hoff publishes the Levant Report, in which he, and guest writers, closely monitor events in Syria and the West’s many interventions in that country and region.
A couple of months ago, Hoff published my point by point analysis of the DIA documents revealing the West’s knowledge, in 2012, of the potential emergence of an Islamist principality in Syria and that the Syrian opposition, always a minority, was already being led by Wahhabists, whom the US supports in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere and have been supported by the West for many decades.
With visitors linking from Greenwald’s article (as well as from another link to the Levant Report from Wikileaks) to investigate Hoff’s reporting on the DIA documents, Hoff also re-published my analysis, with a new introduction written by him.
