    Surely if the US government has copies of those records, the UK government should have copies too.

    I remember how Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney General (Britain’s senior law officer) supposedly told Tony Blair that the proposed war on Iraq was illegal. Then Goldsmith went to Washington for a brief visit, and on his return changed direction 180 degrees and said the war would be legal. Now I wonder what changed his mind…
