White House Petition to Extradite Big Game Hunter Walter Palmer to Zimbabwe reaches 75,000 Signatures Since Yesterday

Text of the WhiteHouse.gov petition, which has received almost 76,000 signatures since it was created yesterday:

Extradite Minnesotan Walter James Palmer to Face Justice in Zimbabwe

Cecil the Lion, a resident of Zimbabwe’s national park, and a national icon, was poached and killed this week. Media reports in the Guardian, Wall Street Journal and elsewhere have identified American Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minneapolis, MN as the poacher. He is alleged to have lured Cecil from the safety of the national park to kill him. Two of Palmer’s local accomplices are already in custody. Zimbabwe authorities now actively seeking Palmer in connection with this incident.

We urge the Secretary Of State John Kerry and the Attorney General Loretta Lynch to fully cooperate with the Zimbabwe authorities and to extradite Walter Palmer promptly at the Zimbabwe government’s request.

WhiteHouse.gov petitions require 100,000 signatures to receive a response from White House staff.

The lion in question was lured out of a national park with meat, shot with a crossbow, followed for 40 hours as it suffered, then finished off with a gunshot.  Its body was found decapitated and skinned.

Slate reports that Palmer can be extradited to Zimbabwe under US extradition agreements with that country.

Since being posted on Tuesday, the petition has received more than 211,000 signatures, far surpassing the 100,000 signatures required to receive a formal response from White House staff.

The man deserves to be punished in a spectacle the world can see to deter other Teddy Roosevelts and set a precedent to declare that animal life must be respected. Thou shalt not kill, you mother****er.

    Definitely wrong and disgusting.
Why are the Planned Parenthood videos detaiing the selling of viableinfant organs not also worthy of an article, pictures. they’ve run three already, nine forthcoming I understand. Animal cruelty is terrible, infanticide is much worse!

Obama must speak out about Zimbawbe’s awful conservation methods and the selling of baby elephants to saudi arabia, france and china etc. https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1LENN_enCA606CA606&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=zimbawbe%20sells%20baby%20elephants&es_th=1

Zimbabwe must speak out about the US’s industrial farming methods that torture and kill millions of animals per year. Or, on another topic, the US’s neo-Apartheid system of killing, imprisoning, enslaving, and creating an under-class of black people. Or continued annexation and theft of Native land to profit off natural resources. And so on.

Robert B. and Micharl D. – just TRY to stay on topic, won’t you. No sense arguing about ALL the branches on the tree, when the topic is this particular one.

The fact that this guy feels the need to personally kill and brutalize anything – animal, human, etc., while taking such enjoyment from it, is a huge red flag. He is the type that we later find out is serial murdering humans. Seriously, there’s something wrong with a person who can take this much joy in brutally cutting down these gorgeous, free-roaming and ENDANGERED creatures.

    • Satinismelord

I agree! To hunt for sport is a barbarous act worthy of safari and exploration hunts of Victorian English culture, not our modern society.

That picture would look better if he was the one dead

This petition now has over 100,000 signatures. President Obama is required to address all petitions with over 100,000 signatures.

If it’s not for substenance, or to keep wild populations in check, why in the world do people like this 433hol3 think that they go and shoot a wild animal just to hang a head on the wall. Hunting should be more strictly controlled in the US and more animals protected worldwide.

  • NEW RULE: if a lion has a NAME (Cecil), it’s probably a bad idea to kill it.

  • truthtime

This is great and all. I mean it shows the decadence that permeates the “American” way. Like a Hyper-Modern Rome in Excess.

But I have another good idea, where are all the petitions to extradite Bush and his cohorts and Obama and his cronies to the Middle East for a trial in an Iraq and Afghan court as well? Does the White House have to address that if it reaches 100,000? They can also be tried on domestic soil for violating the rights of Americans.

Obama didn’t start the mess in Irac? Impossible to bailout completely in the middle of a war.

  • It’s not an accident that Planned Parenthood comes up in a post about Cecil the Lion:

Conservative media figures are using the death of Cecil the Lion to push bogus stories of Planned Parenthood selling aborted fetal tissue.

Sorry! But I just have a great propaganda detector!
