Geoengineering Is Being Pushed By Politicians and Scientists … But It May Do MORE HARM THAN GOOD

Scientists Suggested Melting the Arctic Ice Cap to Stop a New Ice Age

Proposals to use geoengineering to fight global warming are in the news.   Indeed, humans have been intentionally modifying weather for climate control for decades.  But geoengineering has not always been thought of as a way to fight global warming

In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, scientists and presidents considered geoengineering to stop a new ice age and create more warming.

On April 28, 1975, Newsweek wrote an article stating:

Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects. They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers, might create problems far greater than those they solve. But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies. The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.

Here is a reprint of the article in the Washington Times, and here is a copy of the 1975 Newsweek article.

Why were scientists considering melting the arctic ice cap?

Because they were worried about a new ice age.

Newsweek discussed the 1975 article in 2006:

In April, 1975 … NEWSWEEK published a small back-page article about a very different kind of disaster. Citing “ominous signs that the earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically,” the magazine warned of an impending “drastic decline in food production.” Political disruptions stemming from food shortages could affect “just about every nation on earth.” Scientists urged governments to consider emergency action to head off the terrible threat of . . . well, if you had been following the climate-change debates at the time, you’d have known that the threat was: global cooling…

Citizens can judge for themselves what constitutes a prudent response-which, indeed, is what occurred 30 years ago. All in all, it’s probably just as well that society elected not to follow one of the possible solutions mentioned in the NEWSWEEK article: to pour soot over the Arctic ice cap, to help it melt.

Obama’s senior science adviser – John Holdren – was one of those warning of a catastrophic ice age.

The Boston Globe reported in 2005:

The grandest climate engineering schemes came from the Soviet Union. The most Promethean among them was a late 1950s proposal to dam the Bering Strait and, by pumping water from the Arctic Ocean into the Pacific, draw warm water northward from the Atlantic to melt the polar ice pack, making the Arctic Ocean navigable and warming Siberia. The leading Soviet climatologist, Mikhail I. Budyko, cautioned against it, arguing that the ultimate effects were too difficult to predict (though he himself had played with the idea of warming the Arctic by covering it in soot to decrease its reflectivity). John F. Kennedy, as a presidential candidate, suggested the United States look into collaborating on the project. While the two countries continued desultory discussions of the Bering Strait plan into the 1970s, the American government was by then losing interest in the whole field of weather modification.

Similarly, the American Institute of Physics notes:

Around 1956, Soviet engineers began to speculate that they might be able to throw a dam across the Bering Strait and pump water from the Arctic Ocean into the Pacific. This would draw warm water up from the Atlantic. Their aim was to eliminate the ice pack, make the Arctic Ocean navigable, and warm up Siberia. The idea attracted some notice in the United States — presidential candidate John F. Kennedy remarked that the idea was worth exploring as a joint project with the Soviets, and the discussion continued into the 1970s.

Soot is a major cause of ice warming and melting in the Arctic and in the Himalayas.  As NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies has shown, soot in the upper atmosphere ends up on the surface of ice sheets and glaciers, such as Arctic ice cap:

South Asia is estimated to have the largest industrial soot emissions in the world, and the meteorology in that region readily sweeps pollution into the upper atmosphere where it is easily transported to the North Pole.

If scientists had convinced policy-makers to pour soot over the Arctic ice cap in the 1970s, we might have had real problems. Damning the Bering Strait would have been disastrous.

First, Do No Harm

I have previously pointed out numerous decisions regarding the environment which have caused more harm than good, such as the government forcing a switch from one type of chemical to a chemical which turned out to be 4,470 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Here’s another one. The mongoose was introduced to Hawaii in order to control the rats (which were eating the sugar cane used to make rum). It didn’t work out very well – mongeese are daylight-loving creatures while rats are nocturnal – and the mongeese trashed the native species in Hawaii.

My whole point is that we should make sure that our actions do not cause more harm than good.

For example:

    or how ’bout this one:
    1) engineer corn to contain a toxin which kills rootworms. sow it everywhere.
    2) 80% of the rootworms die, resulting in unlimited food and zero competition for the survivors
    3) resistant rootworms spread everywhere.

    the new plan?
    1) engineer corn to contain 2 toxins which kill rootworms.
    2) ……..

    or:
    1) create a vaccine which targets 3 or 4 of the 6 strains of hpv.
    2) ……..
(if you’re telling me you know the result will be less cervical cancer, you must be god, cause there’s just no way to test. will the non-‘protected’ strains become more widespread? will those strains cause more or less cervical cancer?)

i forgot about the asian carp: Invasive carp threatens Great Lakes Asian

Asian carp were first brought to Arkansas in 1963 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which wanted a natural way to control aquatic weeds, reducing the need for chemicals. Fish farms brought more carp to function as pond cleaners.

……….Keeping Asian carp out of the Great Lakes may be impossible because the fish is so common in U.S. rivers, says Ron Kinnunen, a Michigan Sea Grant biologist who works on Lake Superior. “It’s hard to stop an invasive species once the genie is out of the bottle. You can only hold them in check,” he says.

The Great Lakes’ last line of defense is the world’s largest electrical fish barrier, constructed in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. The Army Corps of Engineers has a $40,000-a-month electricity bill for the barriers.

A demonstration barrier went up in 2002. A second, more powerful barrier was finished in 2006, but the voltage wasn’t cranked up until last February. The economic stimulus bill provides money for a third electrical barrier, which should be ready next year.

The barriers need to be turned off every six months or so for maintenance. When the power is off this week, the Illinois Department of Natural Resource will drop 2,300 gallons of rotenone, a fish poison, into the canal.

oh yes indeed it’s funtime tonight on w’s blog: FLORENCE – It was a beautiful day to blow up a whale.

For safety reasons, George Thornton, assistant district highway engineer, ordered everyone back as demolition experts from his Eugene office placed the charges.

He said his plan was to place the explosives so the force of the blast would throw most of the pieces of the whale toward the ocean. Then when the tide washed it back in, he said, highway crews would haul away or bury what the seagulls didn’t eat.

It took an hour and 45 minutes to place the dynamite. As final preparations were made, a green-helmeted sheriff’s deputy moved the ranks of onlookers back.

The dunes a quarter mile south of the whale were dotted with spectators — most of them watching through binnoculars [sic] or telescopic camera lenses.

Thornton gave the signal to push the plunger.

The beach erupted in a 100-foot high column of sand and whale. Chunks of the animal flew in every direction and spectators began to scream and run for cover when they glimpsed the large pieces soaring directly overhead.

No one was hit, but a piece about three feet long caved in the top of a late-model car in a South Jetty Road parking lot.

After the large pieces had fallen, it began to rain small particles of foul-smelling blubber. Many in the crowd ran for their cars and drove away. But they wouldn’t be rid of the nauseating odor until they bathed and washed their clothes and cars.

Down on the beach, Thornton inspected the blast area — strewn with pieces of whale and sprinkled with blubber powder. Where the whale had been, there was a large hole. The only recognizable part of the whale was its tail, a few feet from the blast area. The smell had improved, but not much.

“It went just exactly right,” Thornton said. “Except the blast funneled a hole in the sand under the whale.”

As a result, he said, part of the whale was thrown away from the ocean toward the parking lot. He added the result of the blast justified the precautions taken in moving the crowd so far away.

(“hair-brained schemes”?) Hare-brained schemes on top of previous hare-brained schemes bring more disaster … important article, thanks. Mother Nature, natural forces, will always win over human ‘band-aid’ technology based on our limited knowledge/understanding.

  • Oh! Oh! OOOOHHHH! Hooray! Washington’s Blog has finally figured out that every genius-suggested pragmatic solution is just another asinine crap shoot. The only thing worth thinking through is how these scientific idiots keep making matters worse.

While we’re on the topic of idiots, tell me this. How’s Ellen Brown’s public bank, the Bank of North Dakota, doing today with oil crashing all over the place?

The solution to the world’s problems is clearly not to leave it to all the self-professed experts. The solution to the world’s problems is to take all the experts out and shoot them first.

    • implicaverse .

The crashing of oil prices is due to the geopolitical war that the US is waging against Russia and has nothing to do with the principle of public banking in North Dakota. Nor does public banking have anything to do with an article on geoengineering. Thank you for our daily dose of internet trollage.

thanks for posting. so frustrating to those of us who have been looking up at our skies for the past 2 decades. call me a conspiracy theorist all you want – anyone on a quest for knowledge will explore ALL theories, thankyouverymuch…… the (global) military complex has been purposely trying to alter our climate for years. As the saying goes, it’s not nice to fool mother nature.

Thanks, Al Gore! do you think he was just a tool or really knew what was going on?

thank you many times over! this massive spraying, electronic warfare and complete weather modification MUST STOP, species are dying as are ecosystems. aircrap .org and geoengineeringwatch .com are good in beginning to understand the crimes against all living things. Nano particulates of aluminum for instance, prevent pine trees and plants from the uptake of nutrients, therefore causing weakness and death. BUT! Monsanto has an aluminum resistant seed for that. Isn’t that wonderful? not Also, why would Congressman Kucinich have drafted the 2001 ‘Space Preservation Act’ mentioning the above subjects if there wasn’t a problem back then. One big deceptive part of this is the geoengineering scientists always talking FUTURE when the massive campaign to control the weather has been going heavily since the 90’s. Check out the subliminal ‘chemtrails’ on the backdrop of the news, in TV ads etc. Holy Sh$t, even Disney movies have the things. look it up. We are so screwed. Organic chorella or such daily is a good way to chelate the heavy metals from crossing the blood/brain barrier and putting you on the ever so skyrocketing scale of Alzheimers patients.

    http://truthstreammedia.com/scientists-fear-cia-funding-geoengineering-to-control-weaponized-weather/

this is a GLOBAL effort, so now my question is: Why all of a sudden is it the CIA that is supposedly responsible for this? People all over the world are being sprayed. Something isn’t right — Too much disinfo still out there — on purpose I suppose.

    from the link:

Peter A. Kirby detailed much of this recent history of secret chemtrail experimentation:

Controlling Earth’s weather would necessarily require a gigantic scientific effort. Oddly enough, when one looks for a National effort in weather modification, one finds a lot. Specifically, if one looks, one can find a history of weather control programs involving electromagnetic energy and atmospheric particles; all in a coherent chronological order.

This paper is the result of thousands of dollars and countless hours spent researching many thousands of pages of source, organizational and Government documents related to weather modification and the atmospheric sciences. This article serves as the foundation for a series of shortly forthcoming articles detailing the history and current state of this Project. May this work help end the spraying. For the fact that these environmental modifications have been done without our informed consent, may this work contribute to the largest class-action lawsuit in history.

This paper examines the origins and development of this; the first planetary level scientific endeavor. Now is our opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the New Manhattan Project.

After detailing several key projects by military scientists and academic researchers in the 20th and 21st Century, Kirby concludes:

So there you have an evolutionary history of a project employing sprayed particles and the electrification of clouds for the purpose of weather modification. Is this a coincidence? Are all these examples simply isolated, one-off events not a part of a larger overall plan? What are the odds of these data points evolving in a chronological order such as they have without being part of a coordinated effort? One may be looking at something like a quadrillion to one; and that is conservative.

James Corbett of The Corbett Report discusses how a scientist has “accuse[d] CIA of funding climate research to develop weather weapons.” Indeed the CIA has.

    Hello Morpheus,

I translated your great article into German and published it on my small weblog, which hopefully doesn’t violate any copyright. If it does, please tell me and I will delete the translation immediately.

With best wishes and regards to all of you

Fear has been the number one weapon used by evil in this world. We have and are seeing a growing number of self proclaimed survivalists or preppers. They live in fear as if its their job to protect this world and maintain a status quo. Living with this kind of fear is spiritually counterproductive according to the Scriptures. The only thing we have to fear is GOD. The deception in this world exists in stacks or layers. Take a room full of liars and tell them to accuse each other of different crimes. Regardless of their words, they are all part of the same big grand scheme to fool everyone else. This is Earth. It might as well be called the Death Star. We were told that evil rules this planet. We are all born predisposed to our own lustful desires and weakened by our temptations. All evil has to do is offer the bribe. There’s Earth’s original crime.

Hypocrisy runs deep in the veins of all. You either step outside your natural ways and purify your heart. Thus following GOD’s beck and call to come out and away from this world. Or you give in to “who you naturally are” and do the bidding of the world. Jesus Christ was the worlds only true living example of what it takes for a man to come away from evil and be spiritually purified for what comes after this short life.

Thousands of years later, the majority of people are still the same as before. A bunch of fools who believe whatever the liars and cheats tell them. As long as there is something to be gained from it NOW, they will fall for anything. They have the patience of a spoiled rotten child. A child who is self denied and taught wise things will not behave like the people we typically see in the world today. ANd it is most certain that 99% of all public school children will turn out as heathens. Consumer cattle for the government to play with. Yet. Parents still utilize these shameful institutions.

Wisdom does not grow in this world. It only grows in an individual. Only if that individual comes OUT of the world. We should not live in fear. Wondering who made it rain last night.
