“$8.5 TRILLION In Taxpayer Money Doled Out By Congress To The Pentagon Since 1996 … Has NEVER Been Accounted For”

Military Waste and Fraud Are the Main Cause of Our Problems

We’ve repeatedly documented that military waste and fraud are the core problems with the U.S. economy.

For example, we’ve noted that we wouldn’t be in this crisis of hitting the debt ceiling in the first place if we hadn’t spent so much money on unnecessary wars … which are horrible for the economy.

But it goes far beyond actual fighting.  We could easily slash the military and security budget without reducing our national security.

For example, homeland security agencies wasted money on seminars like “Did Jesus Die for Klingons Too?” and training for a “zombie apocalypse” instead of actually focusing on anti-terror efforts.

Republican Senator Tom Coburn notes that the Department of Defense can reduce $67.9 billion over 10 years by eliminating the non-defense programs that have found their way into the budget for the Department of Defense.

BusinessWeek and Bloomberg point out that we could slash military spending without harming our national security. Indeed, we could slash boondoggles that even the generals don’t want.

BusinessWeek provides a list of cost-cutting measures which will not undermine national security. American Conservative does the same.

Moreover, we’ve shown that the military wastes and “loses” (cough) trillions of dollars.  See this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this.

The former Secretary of Defense acknowledged in May 2012 that the DOD “is the only major federal agency that cannot pass an audit today.”  The Pentagon will not be ready for an audit for another five years, according to Panetta.

Reuters quantifies these numbers today:

The Pentagon is the only federal agency that has not complied with a law that requires annual audits of all government departments. That means that the $8.5 trillion in taxpayer money doled out by Congress to the Pentagon since 1996, the first year it was supposed to be audited, has never been accounted for. That sum exceeds the value of China’s economic output last year.

So I’m doing a little foot dangling in my office on Capital Hill and my chief of staff says to me: Boss, it’s time to trim some fat at the DoD. The voters are going 10 to 1 in favor. Sure, sure, I say. Then while I’m over on K street, sipping a tall cool one later that night, some babe sits up close to me. Never saw her before. She slips me an envelope and she’s gone. I’m curious as hell, and I’m nervous, too. So I’m out in the car opening the envelope. There’s some pics and some text from phone conversations. How am I going to finesse this, is the question. How can I appear to be cutting defense when I’m actually voting to increase spending? I suppose I’ll work it out with my chief of staff, since he is the other guy in the picture…

      Yep, nailed it.

  • MM59

Happy to see this finally hit the press. Rueters reporting also.

Another secret. The Statement of Social Insurance (SS and Medicare) was required from 2006. In 2006 they got a disclaimer, but then got clean opinions in 2007-2009. But in 2010 something happened (perhaps Obamacare?). From 2010 onward, that statement gets a disclaimer too. The auditors won’t sign off on the numbers.

The mantra right now is how great Medicare is. That is also a lie. Yes everyone likes it, because they are not fully paying for it. The unfunded liabilities are about $50-60 Trillion. It is a train wreck.
Who wouldn’t like paying for a Camry and getting a Cadillac! But you young folk will end up paying for a Lexus and getting a bicycle. Oh Brave New World.

    • Irmgard Alderman

If the Health Insurance companies, pharmaceuticals companies and for profit hospitals were not so bent on paying their CEO and other upper echelons such outrageous bonuses, healthcare would cost a lot less.

      • MM59

Those salaries and bonuses are indeed excessive. However, if eliminated – would have an unnoticeable impact on your rates.
Excessive treatments and testing because of fear of being sued, creates more costs. Pharmacueticals is another area – why they can charge US citizens one price & canadians a significantly lower price for the same drug is another problem. And there are many more.
But you are correct to point out the excessive compensation.

The Death of Donald Young Has Also Not Been Accounted For…..

The story about President Barack Obama’s bi-sexual past will not go away. Now, in an exclusive interview with The Globe, Norma Jean Young, the 76-year old mother of the late Trinity United Church of Christ choir director Donald Young, has spoken out and declared that persons trying to protect Obama murdered her son at the height of the 2007 Democratic presidential primary to protect Obama from embarrassing revelations about his homosexual relationship with her son. Donald Young’s bullet-ridden body was found in his Chicago apartment on December 23, 2007, in what appeared to be an assassination-style slaying…… http://fellowshipoftheminds.com/2010/07/25/mom-of-murdered-obama-gay-lover-speaks-up/

The money laundering World Bank is offering the Philippines $500 Million in the form of a loan after US flattens the country with geoengineering. Benevolence, or a chance to own more land, people, and resources?

Bailouts from International Banks are not designed to help out, fix, or
lend a hand in a humanitarian effort. International Banks seek to control all resources, land, economies, governments, and of course the people. Taking a loan from the World Bank is much like a heroin addict borrowing drugs from a drug dealer. The addict could never repay the loan, and his death, or servitude will come as the result of the default.

In the wake of a storm with the magnitude of Typhoon Haiyan, it is important for people to come together and work towards rebuilding from the ashes. It is easier said than done of course, because when anybody is offered such a large sum of cold hard cash – human greed comes into play. However, repeating history will only continue the takeover of ever square inch of this planet so please, Filipinos – Don’t sleep in the devils playhouse! ….. Leaked Memo Reveals U.S. Plan to Oppose Helping Poor Nations Adapt to Geoengineering (Climate Change)

The U.S. internal briefing paper reads, quote—and this is from John Kerry to the U.N.—the U.S. climate change team—the internal briefing paper reads, “As it was in last year’s meeting in Doha, the issue of Loss and Damage is likely to be one of the most contentious issues in Warsaw. Loss and Damage is an agenda item largely driven by the small islands, and more recently the least developed countries, seeking redress for climate damages from sea level rise, droughts, powerful storms and other adverse impacts. … A central issue will be whether loss and damage continues to fall within adaptation or whether it becomes a separate, third pillar … which we believe would lead the UNFCCC to focus increasingly on blame and liability, which in turn would be counterproductive.” Counterproductive, Nitin, for who? ….. http://www.democracynow.org/2013/11/19/leaked_memo_reveals_us_plan_to

Global warming Prof. Kevin Anderson ‘cuts back on washing and showering’ to fight climate change ….. Admits at UN climate summit: ‘That is why I smell’ – Defends his call for ‘a planned economic recession’

Anderson conceded that he has cut back on his personal hygiene after Morano read aloud to him his 2012 quotes.

“That is why I smell, yes,” Anderson told Climate Depot.

Morano then asked Anderson: “And you really believe that [not bathing] is going to help people avoid typhoons?

“I think you misunderstand the point, I do not believe it would help as an individual,” Anderson responded.

            “So it’s symbolic?” Morano asked.

“Well, it’s symbolic, it catalyzes action,” Anderson replied. “That’s the point of that. It may not in that in that particular case, but if we don’t make some attempt I don’t think we can catalyze action elsewhere. I don’t think it’s up to actual individual to bring about the change. But it is up to individuals to stand up for the morals they believe in and the science that they believe in. • Tonto

The food stamp program has become a tragic, heinous drag on our society. Segments of our population have become socialized to think that they and their progeny, like their predecessors, will get food stamps, section 8 housing and welfare checks forever. It’s appalling. Unmarried welfare moms with eight kids really do exist.

To compare the food stamp program to the DoD is just showing a blind prejudice toward making a better future, by increasing or sustaining wasteful welfare spending, while cutting defense expenditures. It’s little more than a socialist propaganda message. The socialists would cut welfare spending completely too, while eliminating any possibility of employment. Look at the examples of socialist societies.

Making a better future that is not worse than the present, is not dependent upon continuing the failed policies of the idiotic welfare state that has evolved since LBJ’s war on poverty. While making a the DoD more accountable, is a laudable goal, extinguishing the DoD would clearly not make for a better future. Extinguishing all welfare programs on the other hand, would likely improve the future for all, tenfold.

The welfare state encourages black market and criminal activity. Welfare/crime stories and statistics are largely hidden from society. But, there is a very strong correlation. The transition from welfare to work is a less frequent story than is the correlation between welfare and criminal activity. Welfare has helped create and sustain a growing career-criminal class .

      • T Noah Thomas

The DOD has become a tragic, heinous drag on our society. Segments of our population have become socialized to think that they and their progeny, like their predecessors, will get nonbid contracts and no audits to support their cocain habit ans secert wars forever. It’s appalling. Un american multinational compaines with various subsidiaries corportate welfare abuse really do exist.

To compare the food stamp program to the DoD is just showing a blind prejudice in an authoritarian leadership that only job is to keep us in fear of each other and to provide a false sense of security, by increasing or sustaining wasteful military industrial spending, while cutting social expenditures. It’s little more than a fascist propaganda message.

Securing our liberites that is not worse than the present, is not dependent upon continuing the failed agressive military colonialism policies of the idiotic security state that George Washington and Harry truman warned us by poiting out the dangers of the military industrial complex. While making Food Stamps and other social programs more accountable, is a laudable goal, extinguishing social programs would clearly not make for a better future. Cutting the military budget by more than half on the other hand, would likely improve the future for all stopping the cycle of violence. We create our own enemies now.

The blank check we give to the DoD encourages black market and criminal activity. Sercert wars against humanity in the name of free market crime stories and statistics are largely hidden from society. But, there is a very strong correlation. The DoD has helped create and sustain a growing career-criminal class .

        • Tonto

          Boy, you’ve got it bad.

Raise your hand, T. Noah Thomas. Raise your hand to indicate you are an indoctrinated liberal, who in the last two elections voted for hope, change, and, and all the waste, fraud and corruption of the Obama Administration.

Noting one fiscal fault, does not absolve the vast, collective, and heinous depravity of another. The negative impact of the welfare state on our country is almost immeasurable.

ObamaCare should be repealed, and the phony-humanitarian-liberal-cause of universal health care forgotten, because getting the federal government further-involved in medical care, should be a lesson that teaches, this approach is only going to add to the systemic waste, fraud and corruption.

Defense is arguably necessary. Endless federal government support for welfare queens, and now the insurance/medical industries through ObamaCare, clearly, are not necessary, nor even desirable given the heinous net result.

Becoming a welfare queen with eight kids is an incremental process, except in the case of Octomom. The policies that make it all to possible and probable have also been an incremental process, put at the feet of the Democrats in office. The children of these welfare queens drain the economy by filling our prisons and creating the need for ever more vicious cops. It’s high time to end the deep river of funding that supports this generational-learned lifestyle once and for all.

          • jadan

Tonto, you’re a bone fide eugenicist, fascist creep. Becoming a self righteous Nazi is an incremental process. But there is a cure. You have to become a welfare queen for a day. This is done with virtual reality technology. Instead of your tiny white little pecker, you will experience this large, fecund black vagina between your legs. If you survive this first immersion and do not perish from your own self-disgust, fear & loathing, we can move on to phase II in which you will learn Ebonics and discover that bearing children is easier than working at McDonald’s for nothing….

          • Tonto

            Jadan-

You have exactly personified the nation-destroying ethic I meant to make with the statement, “[...] bearing children is easier than working at McDonald’s [...]“.

You must think the government owes you a job, or a welfare check, right?

Unfortunately the future world you are endorsing where the slovenly inherit the world, is more miserable than hell on earth. Look at Mexico City or Rio for an example of what you are so positive about.

          • jadan

Yes, Tonto, you share the eugenicist’s vision that grants you, the superior being, the right and privilege to stand in judgment over lesser beings, the “slovenly” & etc. You feel no compassion, no empathy. You disgust me, actually, and I will ignore your commentary in the future.

          • Tonto

            Wow! Only in America!

I am supposed to feel compassion and empathy for some 700 pound welfare momma who has $3000 worth of tattoos across the small of her back, a pierced nose, pink hair and drives a white Lincoln with heavily tinted windows?

I disgust you? Holy shit! You said it. “[...] bearing children is easier than working at McDonald’s [...]”

It’s high time to make it much less easier, Jadan. The government is printing money every day to pay for that bimbo’s lifestyle. What kind of kids can she possibly raise? They’re all destined for the penitentiary under your compassionate scheme. And all that welfare-money-printing is negatively affecting everyone with inflation.

It’s categorically immoral to continue to support her and her lifestyle.

Out of the mouths of babes and fools… “[...] bearing children is easier than working at McDonald’s [...]”

Bearing children should not be a means of sustaining a lifestyle. This sort of slovenly dependence is not equivalent to need. It’s called, gaming the system.

          • Hardlee_Ded

Arrogance that is only exceeded by your ignorance… most impressive.

Also did you know that the Pentagon can not account for 25% of its budget compare that to 1% of food stamps? Did you know that the Pentagon is the only federal agency not in compliance with a Law that requires audits so since 1996 8.5 Trillion dollars is unaccounted?

Republican Sec of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on 9/10/2001 a day BEFORE 9/11 said the Pentagon can not account for 25% of its budget not some bleeding heart liberal. Republican Sec of Def. Donald Rumsfeld said on 9/10/2001 that the biggest enemy to the US is within the Defense Department.

U.S. Defense Department own accountants have for years been inserting false entries in the agency’s accounts – a practice that conceals vast sums of taxpayer money lost to waste and fraud. The Pentagon is largely incapable of keeping track of its vast stores of weapons, ammunition and other supplies; thus it continues to spend money on new supplies it doesn’t need and on storing others long out of date. It has amassed a backlog of more than half a trillion dollars in unaudited contracts with outside vendors. And it repeatedly falls prey to fraud and theft that can go undiscovered for years

          Yeah, exactly.

          • Irmgard Alderman

It goes further back than that. When the DOD first handed out Govt Credit Cards, in the 90′s, people used it to fund their vacations, buy computers by the dozens for themselves, family, friends, along with TV’s that were supposed to go into the “Day Room” in the organization, which were found in Sr. NCO, i.e. CSM, quarters. It was quite a while before that got that under control. I was there as a federal employee in a Central Receiving Point, and totally awestruck at the goings on. I would never even dream about doing crap like that!

As we can see, the money from the budget did not steal billions and trillions. It’s your money, taxpayers’ money is at our dear leaders tell stories about corruption in other countries.
Corruption in the United States is legal, such as bribery. On Capitol Hill, a number of businesses, through which you can give a bribe to any minister and any senator. You will be given a check and sign an agreement, and then give the money to the fund of any official, and he will spend the money at its discretion. That this is not a bribe.

While the name of this party signage translated the same way – “people power”, no power of the people do not. Voters make difficult choices in the Congress of the two parties and the voters make it even more difficult choice of the Presidents of the two people. It’s just a fraud and usurpation of power, 100% the next president will be Hillary Clinton, regardless of who to vote, voters, the other candidates will not be simple.
“American presidents always pronounced lingering question of rejection of school violence. From these miserable performances I usually draws yawn. Especially when you consider that these people were ordered to bomb Yugoslavia and Iraq filled with blood.
