NASA: We May Be On the Verge of a “Mini-Maunder” Event

Is a Planetary Cooling Spell Straight Ahead?

All climate scientists agree that the sun affects Earth’s climate to some extent.   They only disagree about whether or not the effect from the sun is minor compared to man-made causes.

We noted in 2011:

This week, scientists from the US Solar Observatory and the US Air Force Research Laboratory have discovered – to their great surprise – that the sun’s activity is declining, and that we might experience the lowest solar output we’ve seen since 1645-1715. The Register describes it in dramatic tones:

What may be the science story of the century is breaking this evening.

Scientists who are convinced that global warming is a serious threat to our planet say that such a reduced solar output would simply buy us more time … delaying the warming trend, but not stopping or reversing it.

On the other hand, scientists who are skeptical about global warming say that the threat is a new mini ice age. (Remember that scientists have been convinced in the past that we would have a new ice age, and even considered pouring soot over the arctic in the 1970s to help melt the ice – in order to prevent another ice age. Obama’s top science advisor was one of those warning of a new ice age in the 1970s. And see this.)

NASA reports this week that we may be on the verge of another Maunder Minimum (a period with an unusually low number of sunspots, leading to colder temperatures):

Much has been made of the probable connection between the Maunder Minimum, a 70-year deficit of sunspots in the late 17th-early 18th century, and the coldest part of the Little Ice Age, during which Europe and North America were subjected to bitterly cold winters.  The mechanism for that regional cooling could have been a drop in the sun’s EUV output; this is, however, speculative.

The sun could be on the threshold of a mini-Maunder event right now.  Ongoing Solar Cycle 24 is the weakest in more than 50 years.  Moreover, there is (controversial) evidence of a long-term weakening trend in the magnetic field strength of sunspots. Matt Penn and William Livingston of the National Solar Observatory predict that by the time Solar Cycle 25 arrives, magnetic fields on the sun will be so weak that few if any sunspots will be formed. Independent lines of research involving helioseismology and surface polar fields tend to support their conclusion.

NASA explains that interactions between the sun, sources of cosmic radiation and the Earth are very complicated, and it takes an interdisciplinary team of heliophysicists, chemists and others to quantify what is really going on.  And the Earth’s climate is also affected by cosmic radiation.

So – even if NASA’s prediction of a period of an unusually low amount of sun spots is proven correct – it is hard to know whether that will lead to a large or small reduction in temperature trends.

What Major Factor Causing “Climate Change” Are They Not Telling Us About?

More alarming articles and studies are surfacing each day which
confirm the rapidly changing state of Earth’s life support systems and
climate. Humanity has decimated the planet and the chickens are coming
home to roost. Though there are certainly many parts to this unfolding
story, the largest piece of the puzzle by far still goes completely
unacknowledged by most of the scientific community and all of the main
stream media/corporate/military/industrial complex. The massive elephant
in the room has been, and still is, “stratospheric aerosol
    geoengineering” or “SAG”, AKA “chemtrails”.

For the Chemtrail Cowboys …..1st God is frying your brain, right now, and then he’s going to fry your ass…………..Just love watching my lavender bring your shit down.

Look here: …. see the mass collecting over Central Cal ….. chemtrails. Now look south they disappear….why? My Lavender/vinegar (and yours). They are trying to block the low from coming onshore. They haven’t been successful yet ….. we are over 150% seasonally in rain and snow pack. The sad thing we are paying for this …. just throwing it down the toilet as fast as we can….the national debt is to my left ….. if you need a reminder.

Research for the 1st half ….

In March 2006, Henry started experiencing symptoms more severe than
the itchy dots he’d had 16 years earlier. This time, however, he was
several hours into a combat mission, in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom in the Middle East, and more than 13 miles above the ground.
“The first thing that happened was the pain in my knees,” he says. “I
kind of blew it off because it was very, very light. But this was
bilateral”—the pain was in both knees. “They never taught us before:
Bilateral is bad. So I just pressed on, of course; that’s what we do.”

Over the next five hours, Henry developed an intense headache,
nausea, and extreme fatigue. The pain got worse. At one point, he
hallucinated that the airplane had rolled 30 degrees to the left. He
began to feel disoriented and sluggish, a sensation he likens to
intoxication. At one point, he snapped awake, not realizing he’d dozed

      read on:

You will have to take my word for it on the second half.

BS, you fell for it fool:) You pay for it:) Here it is in chart/diagram form. I made this from the data the alarmist and “deniers” all agree on, not that crap in your head. I made this for people just like you, that have no idea what they are talking about:)

  • tell us about the moonbase you nazi whores. everyone knows you faked the landings and killed the guys who blew the whistle on the gravitics. 90 minutes to the moon??? FREE energy since the 70’s??? Duff called you out you sluts. Your going to burn in hell with your zog paperboys and bend over buddies. WE SEE YOU YOU DONT OWN US.

  • Reverend Draco

I remember being warned of a possible impending ice age, back in the 70s. . .
And now, we’re being warned of the opposite.
I find it interesting, this crying about warming – when my hometown shows night-time temps (winter) in the upper teens, where they rarely used to get below the mid-to-upper-20s. . . as much as 11 degrees lower than they were 25 years ago.

    • Brigitte

The large majority of climate research in the 1970s
predicted the Earth would warm as a consequence of CO2. A few scientific
articles that predicted an ice age were exagerated and blown up by the media,
that’s why people have the idea that “in the 70’s scientists predicted an ice
age”. There certainly never existed a scientific consensus about an impending
ice age. It is not in the least comparable to the scientific consensus that
      exists about global warming now.

      • FactsRule

“Scientific consensus” that you so loosely toss about (speaking of “blown up by the media”), is fiction. Only the global warming alarmists claim there to be consensus. As a scientist who doesn’t buy the anthropogenic cause THEORY for climate change, I guess that makes me outside of your “consensus”, and therefore, I am a “denier”. Solar radiation cycles have FAR more influence. Unlike you, I am constrained by data – but don’t let facts get in the way of a good story.

How much sun reflective particulate and ionospheric heating does it take to change the climate? The butterfly effect would say little but they have had a good thirty years of testing to refine it. If the UN ENMOD treaty in December 1976 doesn’t sound the alarm, the IGY should. It takes money to run this operation. Agenda 21 is the Elephant in the Room. Everything else is just cointelpro destraction and deflection

In 1500 and something a spanish/portugese sailor discovered a populous and thriving civilization in the amazon and wrote an account that is still extant. They were wiped out possibly by disease carried there from europe/africa to which they had zero resistance and are associated with the fertile ‘black earth’ sites in the region. Guesstimates of their numbers range from 15M to a far more speculative 47M. Some think it was the recovering growth of the amazon that caused the ‘mini ice age’ associated with the maunder minimum.
On the other hand here are some graphs dealing with loss of ice volume in the arctic, graphs 5,6 and 7 down could be interpreted, if you accept that the curves are tracking the mean, in a way that makes 2011/2012 years of reverting to the mean despite last years dramatic ice loss.

  • The fact is that all of recorded human history is just a fleeting moment in the history of this planet.

Making conclusions on climate based on only a few hundred years of observations – only a few decades of which are of any mentionable quality – is like trying to forecast the weather based on observations totaling less than a second, without reference to where you are, what time of day it is, or what season it is.

In short, it is probably possible to conclusively say that the planet has been warming fairly steadily for the last 12,000 years.

The rest is speculation. Perhaps it is informed speculation – but speculation nonetheless.

All this ‘humans have polluted and destroyed the planet’ stuff is just the mideval humano-geo-centrism revisited.

You want to know about organisms having an effect on the planet? Look to the small ones – the algae, bacteria, etc.

It just all seems so natural

Why would anybody be stupid enough to pay attention to anything NASA says, much less believe it, since they faked the Apollo missions, and are now faking their Mars event?

I’m not a scientist, so I’m curious as to how the NASA scientists determine sunspot activity, or lack thereof, from 1650-1700.

The most frightening thing about an impending mini-Maunder event is that it is masking the effect of global warming, or at least slowing it down a bit. That is little consolation to the island nations that are currently being flooded every full moon, and are soon to see all their lands go down under the rising sea level. When the little mini-Maunder event is over, global warming will take off at an even greater rate unless we can figure out some way to take some positive steps to reduce it. There is no question that the earth has gone through heating and cooling cycles in the past, and at least on two occasions the result was a near worldwide extermination of plants and the animals that relied on them for life. This is the first time that humans have had an opportunity to contribute so clearly to the heating problem. Only time will tell whether they are smart enough to do something to cool the earth before they become extinct. It should be very interesting to see what life forms replace humans on the earth….fortunately for me, I will be long gone by the time things hit the fan!

“the effect form the sun” , its hard to go on reading when the first paragraph has a spelling error.
