Government Policy Leading to Persecution of Christians

Most Americans are Christians.

But few know that the acts of our American government are leading to the persecution of Christians in numerous countries.

According to the Vatican’s official news service – Fides - and many other Christian news sources, the Syrian opposition is targeting Christians.  Priests and bishops on the ground in Syria confirm these reports.

As a Syrian priest writes in the Guardian:

Despite what you might read in much of the western media, Syria is an enlightened, secular society with a deeply spiritual core and the common belief is that Syria is for everybody. A fundamentalist state would destroy the traditions of co-existence and religious harmony that have existed here since the fall of the Ottoman Empire nearly 100 years ago. Syrian independence was won with the blood of all Syrians – Muslim, Christian, Druze, Alawite and Kurdish.

As BBC notes:

Syria has for much of the century had a sizeable Christian minority, making up at least 10% of the population.

In recent years Syria has been considered one of the easier Middle Eastern countries for Christians to live in. Power is concentrated in the hands of the Alawite minority – a Shia sect considered heretical by many Muslims – which has clamped down hard on extreme forms of Islam.

Indeed, PBS reports that Syrian Christians are accepting arms from the government to protect themselves against Islamic terrorists.

Similarly, for all his faults, Saddam was a secular ruler who tolerated Christians … but Christians have been persecuted by the post-Saddam regime.

As the Syrian priest notes:

In Iraq, after the fall of Saddam Hussein, western allies admitted that they had no postwar plan and many have paid the price for this – especially the Iraqi minorities; since Saddam fell, hundreds of thousands of Christians as well as Muslims have fled Iraq in the face of sectarian violence and terrorism. Now, people are calling for a regime change in Syria without a clear plan for what should happen next. Should the minorities pay the same price in Syria?

BBC points out:

A rise in attacks on Christians after the US-led invasion in 2003 led to up to half the Christian population leaving, although there are no official statistics.

The Guardian reports:

In 2003 … the number of Chaldeans, the Christian Iraqis, was between 800,000 and 1.4 million. In 2009-2010, it was estimated are between 400,000 and 500,000, and rapidly decreasing. Cairo’s violent repression shows a similar process is under way in Egypt as well, where they still represent roughly 10% of the population.

Similarly, Christians were protected – or at least tolerated – by Libya’s secular leader Gaddaffi.   A Roman Catholic priest told Christian News Service:

Under Gaddafi, we’ve been protected.

And Christianity is an officially-recognized and protected religion in Iran.  BBC points out:

Iran’s traditional Christian populations are recognised in the constitution, guaranteed freedom to worship and allocated seats in the parliament ….

But the U.S. government is supporting – with money, arms, and logistical support– Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorist groups in a number of nations.

  • Muslims are forbidden to convert to another religion. If one does so and does not recant, they may be executed

Note:  This post focuses on Christians, but a similar analysis could be applied to Jews. For example, Iran – which has the largest Jewish population in the Muslim world – has a constitution which officially protects Jews.

    Months ago I watched an interview with Robert Baer who claimed to have had face to face discussions with Syrian oppossition leaders. Baer asked what would be their first act if they toppled the Assad regime. Baer claimed the response was, “kill all Christians.”

    Dear Webmasters, I am seriously concerned at your use of the term “Islamic Terrorists” in your description of the CRIMINALS the U.S. and Mossad is funding in the Middle East as well as here. I know there are several groups who actions go against the normative rules of Islam, as understood by the majority of Muslims, both Shia and Sunni. It would be the equivalent of referring to the Ku Klux Klan, or the extremist Jewish groups in Israel, as “Christian terrorists” or “Jewish terrorists”. Please do not let yourselves get involved in part of a Psy-Op against Islam–Islam is not the enemy, any more than Judaism of Christianity. Criminals are.

For that matter, I ask you if you can find any religion on earth in the past 25 years, where its adherants blow things in the name of said religion? Or even find me any religious group that takes insulting their faith so seriously to the extent of killing themselves and others in many cities around the world?

      There are more Christians then Muslims, and they have more control of media outlets then Muslims, yet as Muslims kill Christians, you never see any solidarity of us Christians against them Muslims.     I have been reading the blog for quite a while and I appreciate the content put on it. I have one little objection on this particular post. Though I hardly doubt the fact that the American government is funding and arming terrorists all over the world there is one loophole in the method employed by the alternative media to disseminate such facts.

    Its has been the mainstream corrupt corporate media’s tactic to label terrorists in any country (particularly the Middle Eastern countries) as “Islamic Terrorists”. Its sad to see persecution and discrimination of muslims by the hands of the corrupt, unethical and irresponsible mainstream media. The Muslims pay the huge price for something they have not done.

    Terminology plays a key role in altering and screwing the mind of the audience (the masses) and manipulating their opinion. Mental poisons are far worse than actual poisons affecting the physical well being of a living being. The same terminology is often also used by the alternative media.
    There is no such thing as an Islamic Terrorist. Someone can either be a Muslim ( a follower of Islam, which propagates peace as its core value and eventual aim) or a terrorist. I dont know who first coined the name “Islamic Terrorists” but it does not seem to matter much now since the masses have become inure and addicted to such propaganda leading them into believing every muslim to be a terrorist.

    The mainstream media surely knows nothing about what Islam preaches. This senseless and psychopathic approach of the NWO proponents to destroy Muslims has also kept the “ALIVE” ones from getting to know the Religion that they all have been forced to perceive the way the mainstream media wants them to perceive.

    Plz refrain from labelling such inhuman terrorist as ” Islamic Terrorists”. and Please study Islam and Muslims and the modern day CIA funded terrorism, and find out the connection between Islam and terrorism. I am sure you people are educated and literate enough to impartially judge the matter.

      you must be living under a rock, if you cannot see that most of the terrorism taking place around the world is done by Muslims. The word Jihad means to fight in the name of Allah. The name of typical Muslims: Nasr l Deen (victory of Islamic religion), Fakhr El Deen (pride of Islamic religion), Seif El Deen (sword of Islamic religion), Seif El Islam (sword of Islam), just to name a few. Name a few Christian or Jewish names that parent give their children that may resemble the Muslim names.

    1) these Countries are oil rich plus other very important natural reserves of gas, minerals etc.
    2) these energy requirements of the west depend on these countries heavily ( which they get for free ; printing more and more dollars put of the printer cuz they made a deal that oil would only trade for dollar
    3) big number of potential and actual customers corporate giants
    4) access to the rest of the countries – Russia , China, CARs, Africa Pakistan
    5) Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia have nuclear weapons which pose a threat to the world dominance of the USA and its pet allies
    6) they all neighbour Israel – the name says it all
    7) very low levels of consumerism as compared to the west – it actually help many keep away from the consumer debt problem. their national debts are a big game as well
    on and on and on there can be a dozen more…

    SO simply the culprits, the eilitists, the globalists, the banksters. the NWO proponents apply the following tactics::
    1) divide and rule : ignite fight between sects among Muslims ( and btw Islam prohibits sects) these sects were created by British colonialists just a century ago..before that only sunnis and shias existed
    2) spread violence, depression, fear and hatred into the countries to disrupt social , economic and political systems
    3) lead 2 or 3 of them to war then SELL TO THEM THE WEAPONS ( one of the biggest revenue generating businesses today)
    4) introduce western ideas which usually contradict Islamic beliefs and cause further conflicts between the people and the CIA installed governments who are no more than pets of the elite.
    5) plunge them into debt — deeper and deeper – too bad USA and Europe cant get out of their own debt problems
    6) promote and fund sectarian violence using the political parties in these countries which also depend on outside sources for funding
    7) set up a disturbing environment so that no investments come in , more jobs are lost and the unemployed become fresh recruits for insurgent agencies
    on and on and on….

    havent you all noticed :: check the sequence ( with Media in context) : Afghanistan then Iraq then Egypt then Libya Now Syria . Iran is in the pipeline, then may be Pakistan, Jordan, Turkey etc.

    WHats so special in these countries?? all in the same region…??

      The problem as I see it is there are three religions that started in that god forsaken Middle East, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. All three of them have in their texts something that say we are right and everybody else is wrong. The only difference is recently (in the past fifty years or so), two of the three religions have organized along side the narrative of US AGAINST THEM (Islam & Judaism). As I see it, every effort to organize the Christians has either been made fun, usurped, or given a bad label.

      It is not possible to go on one generation, after the other without having solidarity of Christians, and expect it to not get overrun by the two well funded well organized opponents.

    It is worth mentioning that Iraq’s foreign minister under Saddam Hussein was Tariq Aziz, a Christian. The bomb that recently killed top Syrian officials, took the life of Dawoud Rajha, the defense minister who was also a Christian.

    US foreign policy has always been about destroying secular nationalist forces in the Arab world on behalf of Israel. That way, they have been able to portray Islam as extremist and backwards, when they themselves are the chief allies of Saudi Arabia, the source of this extremism.

    I am not a practicing Christian, but I will side with the Christians in a tribal fashion anytime. The basic reason is the Christian churches never urges people to kill the non Christians.

    You appear to be confident that you are well informed about Islam, militant Islam, and political Islam? Would you call your knowledge and interest in this subject span, one decade, or two? I have spent six decades intimately involved in that subject. So, please attempt to learn from me, if you care to get some facts about these nut cases in the ME.

    Regarding the clitoris thing; I was watching a program (in Arabic) called Cairo Today with Amro Adeeb, and he had some guests on; one was a Salafi doctor, and the other was a Brotherhood member of Parliament? They were talking about how the “old dictator’s wife” has banned mutilation of girls private parts as a barbaric practice. And, that practice should be legal as long as the parents and the “doctor” agree? So here is the trick: The parents are typically ignorant religious infested people, and the doctor, is typically a Salafi Doctor (similar to our liberal doctors who would abort a woman after six month pregnancy with drilling the head of the baby). These barbarians were talking about some girls can have a big clitoris, and such can make them too excitable sexually? How many time did you see such a subject discussed on American TV?

    With major unemployment, and a devastated tourist industry, the Egyptian legislators need to be concentrated on something more important than oppressing women, would you think?

      You have not yet fully understood my point of this debate my friend. Its that do not blame ISLAM for such problems.

      As far as political, economic and social problems in the ME are concerned, I would request you to study the codes of conduct and laws Islam propagates about Economics, Society, Law, Government, Military, Politics, Business and personal life etc. No where in the middle east has an Islamic government taken charge of a country since the last 100 years ( and do not mention the Ottomans, (they also walked a different path shortly before their defeat). And please do not mention Saudi Arabia, those monarch-puppets are not to be seen as Islamic monarchs. (BTW, the concept of Monarchy is not endorsed by Islam, its Caliphate which was toppled nearly a 100 years ago).

      I surely agree that Churches dont ask people to kill non christians but there are people like Pastor Terry jones alive in this corrupt world. How would you categorize his actions?? I know he’s an exception but there are many others like him. Does that mean Christians are evil people?? I dont think so but he sure is.

      Likewise Islam and practising Muslims do not get involved in such things which the modern day media projects as being Muslim driven. You may have invested the last 6 decades on the topic but have you ever read the Scripture the Muslims are supposed to follow as the most major criterion, The Quran??? Please do so.     Thanks for putting all this into proper perspective. I’ve been noticing this trend going on, and have friends from the christian minority in Syria who have no grievances with Assad. They were living peacefully under his regim – no evil dictator wrap.

    Money is the motive – The US government figures if they aid the islamists in over throwing the “dictator”, which is the common enemy, in turn, broker deals for natural resources and influence in the region after their fall. Which often turn sour … islamists take help, but have these god-sent agendas that they are adamant of carrying out and find a way to break pacts.

    Long story short – we oppose rulers in the middle east that dont sport a beard (assad,mubarak,abdullah) We want the long beards! Sad.. Only because these rulers are not in favor of the USA foreign Policy , some thinking independently, some siding with communists, some not allowing the western world to plunder their resources. Thats why we do it. At least that what I think..

    Disappointing, one sided view.

    When you’re a Christian in Iran you pay the extra tax. When you die and ONE of your kids has converted to Islam that kid will inherit everything. Conversely, converting back from Islam is punished by death.

    This has been the rule of the Kaliphate and it is law in Iran. It’s purpose is to enforce total islamisation.

    You may call that a tolerant society. I disagree. I call it something else.

    I agree with this 100%! The closest ally that the USA and Israel could have in the Middle East has been a secular president who was sometimes a little brutal in keeping order in his country (like the Shah of Iran, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, and Mubarek in Egypt). I had friends in the pharmaceutical industry who had clinical study sites in Baghdad in the 1980′s. That is, as an American you could go to Baghdad and visit, conduct business, etc throughout the 80′s. Then for no apparent reason we targeted Hussein as our enemy – he was the enemy of Exxon – not the people of the USA! We shouldn’t have fought against him – he was actually pro USA – as was the Shah in Iran! and Mubarek in Egypt! Now we are dealing with people, who we helped strengthen, who hate us to very core of their being! What kind of stupid policy is that! We had allies there and we abandoned them. But they weren’t just friend of the USA. They were friends of Capitalism and they represented millions of people who were ready to make contributions to this world, but were cut off and put on the back burner so that islamist fundamentalists who hate progress could take power! What a freakin shame!

    The Iraq war had good intentions to get rid of very evil dictators in the middle east but it was the most poorly planned war in all of US history including Vietnam and many US troops had outdated survival equipment from the 80s and poor management.

    I think George Bush was bullied by the Congress where originally he didn’t want to do it but gave in to the ‘good ole boys’ in politics to save his ass and it’s been his downfall ever since. He’s probably now feeling guilty for not having a stronger back-bone.

    9/11 was George Bush’s big chance to prove he changed from being a hard core drinker to acting in lines of Christ but instead he totally blew it.

    As the old saying goes. ‘Garbage in, Garbage out’.

    The Iraq war is like a bad movie script where if it was a fiction war movie in the theaters it would get many negative reviews and people would demand their money back which within a week the movie would be pulled from every theater.
