Government Uses Anti-Terror Laws to Crush Dissent and Help the Too Big to Fail Businesses

When the Powers-That-Be Can Label All Americans Terrorists, They Can Arbitrarily Harass Anyone They Dislike

For years, the government has been using anti-terror laws to crush dissent and to help the too big to fail businesses compete against smaller businesses (and see this).

This trend is getting worse by the day.

On January 31, 2012, the Department of Homeland Security’s Behavioral Science Division pointed to the following as indicators of potential terrorism (please note – as you review the list – that some indicators are conservative, some are liberal and some are bipartisan):

  • “Reverent of individual liberty”
  • “Anti-nuclear”
  • “Believe in conspiracy theories”
  • “A belief that one’s personal and/or national “way of life” is under attack”
  • “Impose strict religious tenets or laws on society (fundamentalists)”
  • “Insert religion into the political sphere”
  • “Those who seek to politicize religion”
  • “Supported political movements for autonomy”
  • “Anti-abortion”
  • “Anti-Catholic”
  • “Anti-global”
  • “Suspicious of centralized federal authority”
  • “Fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)”
  • “A belief in the need to be prepared for an attack either by participating in … survivalism”

Given that most Americans fall into one or more of these categories, the powers-that-be can brand virtually anyone they dislike as being a terrorist.

Indeed,  judges and  prosecutors discuss conspiracies every day,  and federal and all 50 state’s codes include specific statutes addressing conspiracy, and specifying punishment for people who commit conspiracies.  (But surely judges, prosecutors and legislators are not terrorists.)

And Public Intelligence notes:

A flyer from a series created by the FBI and Department of Justice to promote suspicious activity reporting states that espousing conspiracy theories or anti-US rhetoric should be considered a potential indicator of terrorist activity. The document, part of a collection published yesterday by Public Intelligence, indicates that individuals who discuss “conspiracy theories about Westerners” or display “fury at the West for reasons ranging from personal problems to global policies of the U.S.are to be considered as potentially engaging in terrorist activity. For an example of the kinds of conspiracy theories that are to be considered suspicious, the flyer specifically lists the belief that the “CIA arranged for 9/11 to legitimize the invasion of foreign lands.”

I have verified the authenticity of the flyer: here it is posted on the Columbus Police Department’s website. (Take screenshots; it might soon be moved from the public section of the website.)

A number of PhD economists say that idiotic government policies and ruthless behavior by the big banks have led to Depression-level unemployment. Many patriotic Americans believe the same thing. Does that make them terrorists?

Many high-level military and intelligence officials say that the never-ending wars in the Middle East and North Africa are reducing our national security and causing unnecessary misery (and see this). Many patriotic Americans believe the same thing. Does that make them terrorists?

Many 9/11 Commissioners, congressmen and high-level military and intelligence leaders believe that there was a cover up regarding 9/11 and that the full story has never been told. Many patriotic Americans believe the same thing. Does that make them terrorists?

The list of activities or attitudes which may get an American citizen labeled as a terrorist grows longer by the day. Indeed, the “terrorist” label in modern America is no different from the label during the Stalinist era of “traitor to the Communist party”. It can be used by those in the halls of power to arbitrarily punish any of the commoners

Even if some of these characteristics don’t get one labeled as a terrorist, they may very well get one labeled as crazy. Specifically, government apologists are eager to label anyone “taking a cynical stance toward politics, mistrusting authority, endorsing democratic practices, … and displaying an inquisitive, imaginative outlook” as worthy of a Stalinist trip to the insane asylum.

The only terrorists are people who are willing to exercise violence on the innocent in order to control them. Its the only definition I’m interested in. All the others are meant to confuse or scare the American Citizenry.

  • It could be that they will add “those who have gonorrhea” to the list, because it is going to go nuclear as a result of defective medical practices.

  • Perhaps we should start producing and marketing a bumper sticker/magnet to replace the ubiquitous and ridiculous “Support the Troops.” My suggestion is “Wake up the Dupes.” Perhaps it could incorporate the portrait of a GI being hit over the head with a cast-iron skillet?

  • while i’m with you in general about the growing movement to turn the US into a police state where everyone is under suspicion, i’m afraid the flyer from the columbus police is pretty restrained. after all, in their defense, they do note,

“It is important to remember that just because someone’s speech, actions, beliefs, appearance, or way of life is different, it does not mean that he or she is suspicious…”

now, if only people in general (and police officers in general) would take that caution to heart… believe me, i have no illusions about how dangerous life is becoming in the united states of fear.

  • “We” know who are the real “crazy terrorits” are and it dam sure ain’t the American Citizenry!

OMG, this is so Colossally Retarded that I must participate in this Moment in History to comment, before they shut down Free Speech on The Web entirely (which is clearly where they are going). And I’ll tell you what else: I am absolutely certain, in my “Potentially Twisted” Heart (LOL), that I speak for the vast majority of Americans, as well. So, you ready? Let’s Roll:

    1) The Total Tonnage of those “Reverent of individual liberty” includes (among many others) EVERY TEACHER and ROLE MODEL of OUR ENTIRE (’60s/’70s) GENERATION – and ALL OF US who listened to, and believed them! So, according to your FuckTard Profiling that’s at least one whole generation (at least), of “Potential Terrorists” right there! (Holy SHIT, are you OUTNUMBERED! (LOL))

    2) By now, anyone who is NOT “Anti-nuclear” – after the Truth about Three-Mile-Island and Chernobyl has come out – and with Fukushima Daiichi and -Daiini even now still spewing out radioactive poison, and infant mortality on the West Coast OF THE USA already spiking – and knowing the CORPORATE CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE BEHIND ALL OF THEM, from soup to nuts: anyone who is NOT “Anti-nuclear”, in the face of all this, is a F-ING MORON.

    3) “Believ(ing) in conspiracy theories” are those – OFFICALLY, now – including a MAJORITY OF THE US CONGRESS IN 1979, who concluded there MUST have been – not “could have been”, not “might have been”, but MUST HAVE BEEN (at least) a second gunman who shot President Kennedy in 1963. Making this, by definition, a “conspiracy theory” – and the 1979 US Congress the “Potential Terrorists” who believed it. But of course the wackiest Conspiracy Theory of All is the current USGovt theory still put forth to this day, describing 9/11: that a bunch of Fundamentalist Yahoos, operating out of a cave in Afghanistan, accomplished everything on 9/11/01 that we were told – much of which was PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE, not to mention implausible. So I guess all the politicians and bureaucrats still pushing THIS Conspiracy Theory are also themselves…”Potential Terrorists”! (Ironically, actually that’s true – but for some entirely different reasons.)

    4) “A belief that one’s personal and/or national ‘way of life’ is under attack” was, as I recall, enunciated nowhere louder or more clearly than President George W. Bush, in the immediate aftermath of 9/11: remember “They Hate Us for Our Freedom”, anyone? Of course you do! And there you go: George W. Bush and everyone who swallowed his bullshit: “Potential Terrorists”! (Again, the searing irony is Bush WAS one of THE Premier Terrorists – a STATE-SPONSORED TERRORIST – of [at least] the budding 21st Century – and that’s no “theory” but a [by now] well-documented Fact of History.) Got WMDs?

    5) “Impose strict religious tenets or laws on society (fundamentalists)”, “Insert religion into the political sphere”, “Those who seek to politicize religion” and “Anti-abortion” – these are basically all the same, and describe all the same approximately HALF OF ALL AMERICAN POLITICIANS FOR THE LAST 40 YEARS. That’s a LOT of “Potential Terrorists” – better round up all the slimeball “Blue Dog” Democrats, “Southern” Democrats and ALL REPUBLICAN politicians! (LMAO) Remember that movie “Mars Attacks” – where the old lady breaks into hysterical laughter when she watches the Martians vaporize the entire Congress on TV? Well, that was her, not me – but I DO UNDERSTAND! (LOL)

    6) Again, no one but a MORON would NOT be “Suspicious of centralized federal authority” – in fact a gross understatement, considering all they have done over the last decade: there is no question about it! Remember what Federal Government did for New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina? You Did A Helluva Job, “Brownie”! Or how about Washington’s protection of BP – and their “cleanup” that was more toxic than the oil itself – dumped in the Gulf of Mexico? Or what the Federal Government did and is continuing to do to the Economy: giving everything to – and failing to enforce regulations on – Wall Street. Oh, and they’re going to REQUIRE US to buy dogshit Health Care Insurance – the most inefficient and unjust payment system in the WHOLE WORLD??! Well, you can GO FUCK YOURSELF, “Brownie”. If the classification “Potential Terrorist” applies to anyone who is not so RETARDED that they resent these (among many, many other things), then surely it is a great compliment! (Especially considering the source.)

    7) “Fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)” was – once again – precisely the diatribe from US Administrations and Congress-Craps as recently as George W. Bush’ 2nd election campaign, in 2004 – and before that going all the way back to Ronald Ray-Guns. Just look up how many years the USA has been delinquent in paying its United Nations dues. Or how about “Freedom Fries” – when our “Potential Terrorist” warmongering politicians wanted us to turn against the Peace-Loving French – remember that? I remember the Japan-bashing all throughout the ’80s – when theirs were the only corporations that would give us any cars that were worth a shit – and it sounded just like the China-bashing of today! This is YOUR POLITICIANS stirring up all the shit – and again, the (supreme) irony is that they REALLY ARE terrorists – REAL, STATE-SPONSORED, DEATH-SQUAD, AGGRESSIVE-WAR ones. (Perhaps their misery is such that it longs for company – to the point that they would brand us members of the same club. Well, again – on Behalf of The American People – FUCK YOU!)

    8) “A belief in the need to be prepared for an attack…by participating in ‘survivalism'” is really a classic case of politicians poking out your eyes and then cursing you for blindness. WTF DO YOU EXPECT, after a decade of “Color Alerts” – achieving nothing but the terrorizing of ordinary people – militarized, jack-booted police abusing one and all, at will (more terrorism), widespread Corporate Theft of people’s houses and investments, wholesale violation of EVERY LAST PROTECTION under the Constitution – an overthrow of the very Essence of the Rule of Law – culminating in a truly gargantuan Theft and Debasement of The Money, itself. Again, anyone who would NOT be working – DILLIGENTLY – at SOME PLAN for survival, is either a Retard or Mentally Ill (or both). And again, if “Potential Terrorist” is the default category for anyone who is neither of the above, then it can only be considered an endorsement, from brand of politics and a government bureaucracy gone Truly Insane.

Go read the inscription circling the inside of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. And don’t let these FuckTards chisel it off. Because THIS IS AMERICA, GOD-DAMNIT!

I’m sorry but someone really must address this “CIA arranged for 9/11 to legitimize the invasion of foreign lands” – a “delusion” so specific that it is by far the CLOSEST YET TO AN ADMISSION that that’s exactly what they DID do! Certainly, it’s plausible – and it is known that CIA personnel were connected to the insider trading against United Airlines and American Airlines before 9/11, proving their prior knowledge of the attack. But IMHO the available evidence doesn’t (yet) definitively prove the whole of the statement, which is in fact a two-parter.

Easiest to address is the last part – that 9/11 was used as The (legal) Basis for foreign invasions – which is another by now Historically Irrefutable Fact. Everyone knows 9/11 was and still remains The (idealogical) Foundation for ALL this Aggressive War, Violation of Civil Liberties – the entire Global War (OF) Terror, ALL of it – including Suspension of US Constitutional Protections for US citizens and non-citizens alike. George W. Bush even linked IRAQ to 9/11 – a lie so lame and desperately unproveable that he later tried to deny he even said it!

My use of “The Basis” and “The Foundation” above is quite deliberate, as these two are synonyms in translation of another, more familiar: “Al Qaeda”. (Look it up.) Some “coincidence”, huh?

Which brings us back around to the first part: that “CIA arranged for 9/11”. Based on what we have seen – SO FAR – I would not put it quite that way, but would instead note what CIA DID do, beyond all doubt, was to CREATE AND SUPPORT AL QAEDA – before, during AND SINCE 9/11. So CIA certainly provided the Patsy – and, even more importantly THE MYTHOLOGY – to well and truly pin the crime on precisely the type of Enemy Muslim Fundamentalists essential to all the invasions they wanted to and did, in fact, carry out after 9/11. Again, these are Historical Facts – beginning of course with Iraq, in which the CIA was likewise fully complicit in Bush’ and Powell’s lying out of their asses, to drum up the Attack. (After which Bush posed under a banner reading “Mission Accomplished” – as indeed his mission HAD been accomplished: to START THE WARS, not to win them.)

I don’t think there’s a single thing I’ve said above that isn’t readily and irrefutably verifiable with just a visit or two to the Historical Records on YouTube, WikiPedia and/or this site right here. And if any of these have already been censored/falsified, pick up a copy of Eugene Jarecki’s DVD “Why We Fight” – that will give you a good start.

Which, I guess would make any honest Researcher or Student also a “Potential Terrorist” – according to these Schmucks. (Oh and THANKS for your admission about the CIA, FuckTards!)

You missed a few in your list. How about this:
Anti-government extremists opposed to taxes and regulations pose a growing threat to local law enforcement officers in the United States, the FBI warned on Monday. These extremists, sometimes known as “sovereign citizens,” believe they can live outside any type of government authority, FBI agents said at a news conference. The extremists may refuse to pay taxes, defy government environmental regulations and believe the United States went bankrupt by going off the gold standard. [269 KB]
A flyer designed by the FBI and the Department of Justice to promote suspicious activity reporting in internet cafes lists basic tools used for online privacy as potential signs of terrorist activity. The document, part of a program called “Communities Against Terrorism”, lists the use of “anonymizers, portals, or other means to shield IP address” as a sign that a person could be engaged in or supporting terrorist activity.

The US has become a Police State.

    • A true American

Did we hire these people to protect us or control us? With the people that are in the government paranoia runs rampent with the “WE THE PEOPLE” who put them there. We should all grow a couple and toss these jokes out on there asses by voting them out or what ever else is needed.

This is how it all started out in places like Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany! Step by step this nation is going down the crapper, along with most of the other “democratic” western societies. Germany only recently revoked its own posse comitatus statutes, so now the german army (after having been transformed from a draft-based to an all volunteer one) can be sicked on the german people when they get their “greek treatment” and will finally wake from their moronic slumber.

  • I like how “survivalism” is somehow a bad thing.

You want to survive? Fuck you.
Scout motto says always be prepared? Fuck them too.

Ye of little deep thought. Remember , these self appointed eager bevers work for us/U.S. Tell them as much.In your State, County, Town, City,Township,Perish etc.Tell them as I have. “I will not stand here and have you , my employee talk down to me”.The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that we do not have a protected right of the 1st Amendment to say anything while working on the job for an employer. Write 20 emails to various liberal congressmen and senators thanking them for personally supplying arms and munitions as well as detailed photo surveillance of secrete military and government to any three terrorist organization, just pick any name at random. “THEY COULD USE THE UNWANTED SURVEILLANCE” Might just help to keep them in line. Plus mention any radioactive materials they might be able to supply to the liberal terror group of their choice.
